Whether you are looking to skate recreationally or competively, play hockey, speed skate or figure skate, we have a program for you! The Iceland Competitive Edge (I.C.E.) Learn to Skate Program features the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills curriculum. USFS is the National Governing Body to the U.S. Olympic Committee and through U.S. Figure Skatings National Championships selects our Olympic Figure Skating Team. The USFS skate program is designed for skaters of all ages and abilities and is progressively structured for skaters from Beginner to Advanced.
Flint I.C.E. Learn to Skate Classes under the guidance of Figure Skating Director Brandon Forsyth and the professional staff. Offer multiple weekly classes year round and participants can join at anytime. Pro-rated fees are also offered. All Skaters must become members of the Iceland Competitive Edge Figure Skating Club (I.C.E.F.S.C) which provides USFS badge testing and Certificates of Achievement along with mid-session progress reports, a special “last class activity day” & a free “bring a buddy” to skate session. Participants will be given an USFS log book to keep track of their level and progress along with a FIA LTS tee shirt to wear during class.

Flint 4 seasons Figure Skating Club (F4SFSC) is now Iceland Competitive Edge Figure Skating Club (ICEFSC). You must be a ICEFSC member to participate in our Learn to Skate classes. Yearly membership runs July 1st, 2011 - June 30th, 2012 and is due at LTS registration. Cost is $25.

LEARN-TO-SKATE LEVELS
Snowplow Sam Curriculum (for children 6 years old and under)
The Snowplow Sam levels are designed to help the preschool age skater develop preliminary coordination and strength necessary to maneuver on the ice. (Helmets mandatory, gloves are recommended)

Basic Skills Curriculum
The Basic Skills are the fundamentals of the sport. These eight levels of the program introduce the fundamental moves. Upon completion of the Basic 1-8 levels, skaters will have the basic knowledge of the sport enabling them to advance to the more specialized areas of skating such as freestyle.

Freestyle 1, 2 & 3
Classes teach basic jumps, spins and footwork with more focus on moves in the field and choreography as well as strength and conditioning.
Speed-Skating 1, 2 & 3
These levels introduce the fundamentals of stroking, gliding, crossover and postioning of the sport and advance to proper execution of start, turn and straight away techniques.

Brandon Forsyth | Skating Director
Brandon is the author of the PSA New Moves In The Field Study Guide & Oral Exam as well as the producer of the PSA New Moves In The Field Educational Video. He is PSA Master rated in both Moves In The Field and Ice Dance. Currently he is the PSA Rankings Committee Chairman and a USFS Board of Directors member. A former international competitive ice dancer, Brandon is a five time Gold Medalist, 2000 World Junior Silver Medalist, 2001 US Bronze Medalist and a 2002 US Olympic Team alternate. Currently Brandon coaches Basic Skills skaters all the way through national and international competitors. |
